Masterclasses
Yogev Shetrit was born in 1978. A professional Israeli drummer, performer and composer.
Earned his BA in Musicology at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem (2000-4). He studied at the Drummer’s Collective in NYC (2005) and received a full scholarship for studies at the Rimon school of Jazz and contemporary music (2006-7). Shetrit has been a music and drum teacher for the past 25 years.
In 2016, Shetrit established his band, with the goal of playing his own compositions.
In February 2016, Shetrit recorded his first studio album as a bandleader and composer.
The album, titled "New Path",was launched in September 2016 and since then the Yogev Shetrit Trio has performed throughout Israel and all over the world in many festivals and clubs (over 30 countries).
A live album recording titled “AS IS!” has been recorded at Jazz Globus Fest. in Jerusalem in March 2019. The second studio album “Serenity” was released in January 2020.
In addition, Shetrit, gives Masterclasses at Universities and music schools around the world including FIU-U.S.A, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Panama, Concerts and workshops in St.Petersburg and many more.
Moroccan and Andalusian Music & rhythms
Students will explore the most important rhythms such as: Insaraf, Karachi, Betaihi, Burgila and more rhythms (as well as their “clave”), the main pattern of each rhythm and how it is possible to orchestrate and develop it. Also we will learn how the rhythms inspired and influenced many musicians from around the world. In addition, we will get to know the most important musicians in that kind of music.
Middle Eastern and Mediterranean and Music & rhythms
Students will explore over 10 Mediterranean rhythms (as well as their “clave”), the main pattern of each rhythm and how it is possible to orchestrate and develop it.
Poly-rhythms and “The Groups Methods”
Students will explore an easy way to play poly-rhythms and rhythmic groups. It will be explained along with how it's possible to use these rhythms in a contemporary setting such as jazz.
Exercises and practice suggestions will be given and can be played either on a drum kit or hand drum and all kinds of instruments. For kit drummers, there will be tips on how to play traditional rhythms on a drum set.
Also we will see how Poly-rhythms and “The Groups Methods” inspired and influenced many Jazz and Classical musicians from around the world and how they apply it to their music. In addition, we will get to know the important musicians in contemporary music.
